K. This lodgelike hotel is in two separate buildings near Universal Studios. Rooms have an early California look, with distressed furniture, muted color schemes, and private balconies or patios. The hotel is next to the Hollywood Freeway, which can be noisy, so ask for a room facing Vineland Avenue. Transportation to Universal Studios and a nearby Metro stop is free. A sweet bonus: special kids' suites have bunk beds and PlayStation 2.
