The cluster of buildings aims its restaurants and gift shops squarely at tourists, but locals can be lured here, too, especially for the harbor cruises. It's a great place to catch a boat for a whale-watching cruise or a trip out to Catalina. A stroll down this lively strip, along the Port of Los Angeles's Main Channel, leads you to the Maritime Museum (Berth 84, at end of 6th St. 310/548-7618. www.lamaritimemuseum.org), which displays more than 700 ship and boat models and a large collection of navigational gear.
