Transportation Sites, Downtown
Fodor's Review:
Evoking an era when travel and style went hand in hand, Union Station will transport you to another destination, and another time. Built in 1939 and designed by City Hall architects John and Donald Parkinson, it combines Spanish colonial revival and art deco styles that have retained their classic warmth and quality. The waiting hall's commanding scale and enormous chandeliers have provided the setting for countless films, TV shows, and music videos, most recently the duet of Sheryl Crow and Sting. Once the key entry point into Los Angeles prior to LAX, Union Station is worth a visit even if you don't plan to go anywhere but merely want to wallow in the ambience of one of the country's last great rail stations. The indoor restaurant, Traxx, offers a glamorous vintage setting for lunch and dinner.
