$$-$$$, Japanese, Downtown
Fodor's Review:
Chef Junichi Shiode closed his Hollywood sushi bar to open this contemporary izakaya (a restaurant/sake bar serving Japanese pub food) on a busy corner in suddenly trendy Little Tokyo. In addition to excellent sushi and sashimi, you can sample an array of intriguing finger foods -- creamy seafood croquettes, skewers of grilled tongue and luscious simmered pork belly -- plus delicious oddities you'll never find at your neighborhood sushi bar: marinated squid liver, cod roe-stuffed sardines and dried skate fin. With a youthful, modern vibe, Izayoi is an exciting "less traveled path" of Japanese cuisine.
