JiRaffe

$$$-$$$$, American, Santa Monica

User Rating: ***** 4.6

Fodor's Review:

The two-story dining room with ceiling-high windows and polished dark-wood accents is as handsome as the menu is tasteful. Chef-owner Raphael Lunetta, who is also an accomplished surfer, turns out seasonal appetizers such as a delicate roasted-tomato tart or a roasted-beet salad with caramelized walnuts and dried Bing cherries. They're worthy preludes to main dishes like a truly memorable crispy-skinned salmon with parsnip puree, braised fennel, and sweet balsamic reduction.

Great dining experience

We were very pleased with the food and service. However, as the web site indicates, the menu is not extensive.

Watch out for Mondays

Posted by Bob from Orange County, CA. on 11/17/05

We live in Orange County and only get to the west side about twice a year. Every meal we have had at JiRaffe (6-8 times) has been wonderful, except the last one which was on a Monday night. I don't think the regular chief was there that night and both of our meals were awful. I'm rating it on all of the other meals.
