Chinois on Main

$$$-$$$$, Asian, Santa Monica

User Rating: **** 3.8

Fodor's Review:

A once-revolutionary outpost in Wolfgang Puck's repertoire, this is still one of L.A.'s most crowded -- and noisy -- restaurants. The jazzy interior is just as loud as the clientele. Although the menu has expanded, the restaurant's happy marriage of Asian and French cuisines shows best in its signature dishes such as Chinois chicken salad, grilled Mongolian lamb chops with wok-fried vegetables, Shanghai lobster with spicy ginger-curry sauce, and Cantonese duck with fresh plum sauce.

Not So Sure

Posted by Todd from Florida on 10/20/06

You know, the food really IS terrific, but so is the case at so many other places that I'm not so sure that Chinois is worth it. It's just too crowded and noisy to really be enjoyable, especially at its price-point. Go on a weeknight, poke your head in before sitting down. If it's mobbed and raucous - go down to the Library Alehouse a block south. If not, ENJOY!
