Museums / Galleries, Brentwood
Fodor's Review:
This Jewish cultural institution, housed in an imposing concrete-and-steel complex, designed by Moshe Safdie, rises out of the Santa Monica Mountains. It contains conference and educational centers, but the big draw is the museum, where the core exhibition is "Visions and Values: Jewish Life from Antiquity to America." Twelve galleries use artifacts, building reconstructions, and multimedia installations to tell the story of the Jewish immigration experience. Highlights include a large collection of Judaica and a two-thirds-size replica of the torch of the Statue of Liberty. Children can participate in a simulated archaeological dig for ancient Near East objects at the Discovery Center. The new interactive Noah's Ark gallery opened in 2007.
