Amusement Parks, Valencia
Fodor's Review:
True thrill seekers looking for "monster" rides and breathtaking roller coasters come to this anti-Disney amusement park for several of the biggest, fastest, and scariest in the world. The aptly named Scream, for instance, drops you 150 feet and tears through a 128-foot vertical loop. On X, you start with a climb of 200 feet before dropping headfirst at an 89-degree angle. Superman: The Escape is a 41-story coaster that hurtles you from 0 to 100 mph in less than seven seconds. On Riddler's Revenge, the world's tallest and fastest stand-up roller coaster, you stand for a mile-long 65-mph total panic attack. As at other theme parks, there are shows and parades, along with rides for younger kids, to fill out a long day. Weekends are peak times here, so be prepared to stand in line for the more popular rides. (In warm weather, be sure you have sunscreen and water.) If you really need to cool down and don't mind communal pools, you can hop over to its sister theme park, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, right next door, and for $16.99 take a slippery cool trip down its massive waterslides. Rumor has it Six Flags is possibly selling and closing the park in the near future to make way for condos and homes in this desirable location-so call ahead.
