$$-$$$, Mediterranean, West Hollywood
Fodor's Review:
Since it opened in 2002, this restaurant and wine bar has revolutionized dining in L.A., pioneering the small-plate format that has now swept the city. The space is dominated by a long, candle-laden bar serving more than 50 wines by the glass. There's also an L.A. rarity, a charcuterie bar. The tapaslike menu is perfectly calibrated for the wine list; you could pick duck confit, smoked trout, an indulgent slab of pork rillettes (a sort of pâté), or just plunge into one of the city's best cheese selections. Named for the acronym for Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée, the regulatory system that ensures the quality of local wines and cheeses in France, A.O.C. upholds the standard of excellence.
