Kunde Estate Winery & Vineyards

Wineries / Breweries, Kenwood

Fodor's Review:

On your way in to Kunde Estate Winery & Vineyards, you pass a terrace flanked with a reflecting pool and fountains, virtually coaxing you to stay for a picnic with views over the vineyard. The tour of the grounds includes its extensive caves, some of which stretch 175 feet below a chardonnay vineyard. Kunde is perhaps best known for its chardonnays, which range from crisp ones aged in stainless-steel tanks to toastier ones that have spent time in French oak barrels. Tastings usually include sauvignon blanc, cabernet sauvignon, and zinfandel as well. If you skip the tour, take a few minutes to wander around the demonstration vineyard outside the tasting room. In the months before crush (usually in September), you can taste the different grapes on the vines and see if you can taste the similarities between the grapes and wines you just tasted.
