Fodor's Review:

A 3,000-acre working cattle ranch run by the hospitable True family since 1965, this place is the real deal. You can ride up to four times daily, hike in the mountains, enjoy a hayride cookout, and compete in team cattle penning. Most rooms retain their original Western furniture, and newer deluxe rooms have whirlpool baths or fireplaces. A recently completed spa and fitness center bring even more comforts to this well-endowed but authentic setting. Rates include all meals, riding, and entertainment such as weekend rodeos, country line dancing, telescopic stargazing, and campfire sing-alongs.

Cowboy up...or not, it's your vacation.

Fancy the chance at a horse vacation, but saddled with no desire to actually ride a horse. That's the state of mind I found myself in at our fourth annual family vacation at the picturesque White Stallion Ranch. I have a horse at home, but my heart and body just wasn't into the cowboy thing. Nevermind, I enjoyed myself just the same. While dad and the kids went off on their fast desert rides, maximizing the value of their Western dude ranch experience, I sat peacefully, gazing at the mountains, catching up on reading, writing, or nuzzling up to to a horse's soft nose. This is a great place -- dare I say spiritually uplifting -- to unwind. The staff seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs. My only hope is that someday the kitchen will serve real bread. I know, sliced white bread is the American way. I should just cowboy up and eat it, but what I wouldn't give for a nice crusty loaf to break with friends over dinner, at the end of a long day relaxing in the Arizona sun.
