Tucson, ranked among America's top five bicycling cities by Bicycling magazine, has well-maintained bikeways, routes, lanes, and paths all over the city. Scenic-loop roads in both sections of Saguaro National Park offer rewarding rides for all levels of cyclists.

Most bike stores in Tucson carry the monthly newsletter of the Tucson chapter of GABA (Greater Arizona Bicycling Association, Box 43273, Tucson, 85733. www.bikegaba.org), which lists rated group rides. You can pick up a map of Tucson-area bike routes at the Pima Association of Governments (177 N. Church St., Suite 405, Downtown. 520/792-1093).

Mountain bikes, comfort bikes, and road bikes can be rented by the day or week at Fair Wheel Bikes (1110 E. 6th St., University. 520/884-9018) Tucson Bicycles (4743 E. Sunrise Dr., Foothills. 520/577-7374) rents a selection of road and mountain bikes and organizes group rides of varying difficulty.
