Haji Baba

¢, Middle Eastern, Tempe

User Rating: **** 4.2

Fodor's Review:

This casual Tempe treasure is a local favorite. It serves hummus, labni (fresh cheese made from yogurt), falafel, and kebab plates, and the adjoining store stocks delicious cured olives and hard-to-find Middle Eastern ingredients.

Authentic Middle Eastern Fare at Fair Prices

Posted by John from Tempe, AZ on 5/7/06

Haji Baba is a great find. With rustic tables set inside a Middle Eastern grocery, you will find some of the best, authentic Arab food this side of the Atlantic. The owners are Lebanese, and are sure to make your experience good. Be sure to try the Shawerma plate and have a falafel or two on the side! With a whole slew of plates that are foreign to the Western tongue, you will not be disappointed. I wasn't! Also, if you have had thoughts of bringing home that "weird" item that you could never find to cook with at home such as Rose Syrup or tahini, be sure to check out their grocery. It has one of the best spice sections I've seen in a long time.
