Two art-filled rooms, one with a fireplace, and a small patio overlook Sooke Harbour from this former fisherman's cottage. The European-trained chef-owner makes the most of the local wild seafood and organic produce, with such made-from-scratch dishes as zucchini and cilantro bisque, halibut fillet with a black pepper and lemon butter sauce, and grilled lamb sirloin with peppered balsamic glaze.

There's nothing else that really needs to be said about Markus' Wharfside Restaurant than..GO THERE! I will, however, elaborate...the food was outstanding - across the three courses (and so 6 dishes) there wasn't a single below par offering. The staff were all genuinely friendly and, when we got stranded due to a lack of a taxi, went over & above the call of duty by giving us a lift back to our hotel! All this and fantastic views too.

If you're looking for great food in a warm, inviting location with knowledgeable, personable staff, this is the place. This is the type of food you'll remember for long afterwards. For an appetizer try the semmelknoedel (strange name, great taste). Leave room for the sampler dessert (the Trio), which is just outstanding! The main courses change frequently but I've never had one there that I didn't think was great. This is the kind of place you always hope to find on a vacation but rarely do.
