Dim sum, served 11-2 daily in the traditional style -- with goodie-laden carts circulating the capacious, bustling room -- is the draw at this Chinatown institution, which has been in business since 1923. Steamed dumplings, pork buns, and sticky rice are delicious dim sum choices; the sweet-and-sour chicken, Peking duck, and ginger-fried beef served at dinner are more pedestrian. Reservations are not accepted for dim sum.

Probably the best Chinese in Victoria, but. . .

Probably the best Chinese in Victoria, but that isn't saying much. This restaurant clearly caters to the tourist crowd. On the pricey-side for Chinese. The service is very good (unsurprising, given its clientele), but the food is not. Nothing horribly done, but nothing well done, either.

Oily, Tasteless, Watery Food

We chose this Chinese restaurant in Victoria's Chinatown because it was recommended by Fodors (and usually, Fodors had good finds). I ordered Peking Duck and my travelmate ordered Chicken and Broccoli. Neither were very good -- tasteless, oily, unremarkable Chinese dishes. We overheard the people across from us send both their dishes back, complaining the meals tasted like red bean paste and water.
Bad choice, Fodors!
