Fodor's Review:

From extremely modest beginnings in 1900, the AGO (as it's known) is now in the big leagues in terms of exhibitions and support. In early 2004, "Transformation AGO" was launched -- a major expansion designed by world-renowned architect (and Toronto native son) Frank Gehry. A 20% increase in overall building size will allow for 97,000 square feet of additional gallery space; completion is scheduled for late 2008, at a cost of C$254 million. Torontonians will not recognize the new AGO, as Gehry plans a monumental glass and titanium facade to be built over the main building.

Temporary exhibits continue to rotate during construction, but the only permanent display open for most of 2008 will be the Henry Moore Sculpture Centre, the largest public collection of Moore's sculpture in the world. People of all ages can enjoy climbing in and around Henry Moore's large Two Forms sculpture, which is just outside the AGO, on McCaul Street. For a complete list of what's on, check the website.

Skip the AGO until Renovations are finished

Posted by Jack from New York City on 4/22/06

Until the renovations on the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) are finished, skip the whole thing. Just came back from Toronto with my 11 year old nephew. We were disappointed by the AGO. Only 2 galleries were open. The permanent collection (including the Henry Moore collection) is not open for viewing.
