Laurie Raphaël Restaurant-Atelier-Boutique

$$$-$$$$, French, Lower Town

Fodor's Review:

Local and regional products are at the heart of fine cuisine here. Among chef Daniel Vézina's creations are duck foie gras with cranberry juice and port, and smoked salmon from Charlevoix with English cucumbers, curry oil, and a maple glaze. There's a C$89 seven-course menu dégustation, with wines to complement each course available by the glass. If you're seeking adventure, opt for the Chef Chef menu -- for C$56 a surprise meal will be delivered to your table. If that's not enough, sign up for a private cooking class, offered Wednesday evening or Saturday at noon. Don't miss the exclusive food and product lines available at the Laurie Raphaël boutique.

A Perfect Dinner

Posted by lbuchanan from Toronto, Ontario on 8/17/08

We planned one expensive dinner during our weekend in Quebec City and chose Laurie Raphael based on the member reviews here. We were not disappointed! We started with a glass of champagne, and ordered the chef's three course dinner and the sommellier helped us choose a wine. The service was perfect and the meal one to remember forever.

A Gastronomic Experience

Posted by Frequent_Traveller from Atlanta on 6/3/07

We opted for the Chef's three-course tasting. Everything was delicious, and the wine-pairings were perfect. The waitress was attentive and well-versed in the food and wine. We highly recommend this restaurant to those that enjoy true culinary artistry. The restaurant has an adjoining shop for anyone that wants to take some branded items home.

Would recommend a new pastry chef

Posted by mmtrio from Massachusetts on 2/27/07

This was a perfect meal - we opted for the multicourse chef's choice and were not disappointed with a single dish. Delicious! The only improvement I would suggest was the dessert. That night, they served a type of fruit crepe/ dessert manicotti made with a wrap we could not identify - somewhat gummy in texture and clear. The waiter told us it was agar-agar (?!). It did not live up to the quality of the rest of the meal. We were told the pastry chef was "imaginative" but I think s/he may need to be reined in a bit. Highly recommend the restaurant otherwise!!

Best restaurant in Quebec

Posted by Jim from Toronto on 11/6/06

We visit QC every winter, and Montreal regularly throughout the year, and Laurie Raphael is definitely the best restaurant in Quebec. The food is outstanding, the presentation unique (maple candy floss) and the service excellent - they treat our children (7 & 10) even better than us. Great special occasion place that we have gone to on New Year's Eve as well. Not inexpensive, but much better value than many less impressive restaurants in NY, Chicago and Toronto.
