Hôtel Opus

$$$, Quartier Latin

Fodor's Review:

When the Vancouver-based Opus group took over the Hôtel Godin in 2007, it was already one of the chicest and sleekest hotels on St-Laurent, with such hot spots as The Globe and the Med Grill just across the street. Opus has stuck with the uncompromisingly modern interior -- exposed concrete ceilings, tile floors, stainless-steel furnishings -- but has added some splashes of vibrant reds, greens, and oranges. The result could be called minimalist-plus. The exterior is just as striking -- one half is an art-nouveau classic from 1915; the other is a brick-and-concrete contemporary completed in 2004. In the evening, the mirror-walled breakfast room opening onto St-Laurent slips into evening attire and becomes a popular lounge dispensing cocktails and tapas. Pros: classic art-deco building; luxury rooms; hot location for nightlife. Cons: congested street and iffy parking.
