Fodor's Review:
Schwartz's has no frills. The furniture's shabby, the noise level high, and the waiters are -- well, brisk would be the polite word. But its cooks do such a good job of curing, smoking, and slicing (a skill in itself) beef brisket that even when it's 20 below zero you can't see through the windows because locals line up outside to get a seat at the city's most famous deli and order a sandwich thick enough to dislocate jaws. So avoid lunch and dinner hours, and when you do get in, don't ask for a menu; there isn't one. Just order a smoked meat on rye with fries and a side order of pickles -- and make it snappy. Your waiter is in a hurry.

The smoked meat sandwich is definitely on par with what you'll get in a deli in New York.Worth the Trek

As frequent travellers to New York, we wondered if a trip to Schwartz's would pay off. We went for lunch, sat at the counter and enjoyed the delicious smoked meat. (As far as atmosphere, it's a diner.) The waitstaff was friendly and efficient and steered us to the best menu option for us to share. We definitely recommend Schwartz's.Wonderful

Crowded and loud - but very much fun and the smoked meat and turkey are great. The meat was good either hot or cold, and the pickles were excellent. Went for lunch on three occasions and there was a line out the door on each occasion. The take-out staff is pleasant and the waiters know their business.Great deli, populated by native Montrealers.

Schwartz's Deli is a great spot for lunch. While the atmosphere and ambiance are sorely lacking, that's not its specialty. If you want a great smoked meat sandwich, this is the place to go. (FYI- smoked meat is similar to corned beef or pastrami, which I didn't realize until we arrived at Schwartz's.)Waiter will make a face if you order a "Lean" (so don't)

For a New Yorker to say its the Smoked Meat sandwich is fantastic is -- well, enuf said!
