Pedasí
Little Pedasí may make Chitré and Las Tablas look like cities, but it is the tourist center of the Azuero Peninsula due to its proximity to Isla Iguana and Playa Venao. A quiet ranching community with plentiful gardens and a few adobe homes among cement-block buildings, Pedasí is the birthplace of Mireya Moscoso, Panama's only female president (1999-2004). She did a lot for her hometown, which now has a large branch of the Banco Nacional, a refurbished central plaza, and a street sign on every corner.
For travelers, Pedasí is a good place to sleep, eat, or hit the bank before heading elsewhere. The Carretera Nacional runs right through town, where it is called Avenida Central. Pedasí has a few small hotels and a couple of grocery stores that offer your last chance for stocking up before heading farther down the peninsula.
The nicest beaches on the mainland around Pedasí are Playa Los Destiladeros, 10 km (6 mi) to the south, and Playa Venao, 35 km (22 mi) to the southwest.
