Timing and Precautions

The downtown area is very safe to explore, although you should be careful crossing its main streets. La Cinta Costera is best strolled in the morning or evening; it skirts some rough neighborhoods to the west of the Balboa Monument, so stick to the stretch between the Monument and Punta Paitilla.
