Guna Yala may have pristine nature and traditional cultures, but it lacks ATMs and pharmacies, and has only rudimentary clinics, simple stores, and few phones. Few Guna lodges have English speakers, though you can hire an English-speaking guide in Panama City to accompany you. Flights to Guna Yala depart at 6 am, and ground transportation often leaves at 5 am—at least the higher-end lodges serve you breakfast when you arrive. Bring plenty of sunblock, a hat, insect repellent, a water bottle, and cash.
If you have serious health problems in Guna Yala, get on the next flight to Panama City.
