Hacienda Santa Rosa Review

Halfway between Merida and Campeche, this 120-year-old hacienda once served as a nobleman's private estate. Red and white striped pillars mark the way to the main house where antique rocking chairs are spread across a long veranda. The restaurant overlooks the well-tended gardens, and there is a small pool bridged by restored ruins. Rooms are staggeringly beautiful, with 18-foot ceilings, checkered tile floors, exposed beams, and duvet beds sprinkled with flowers. Request room #5, which has an outdoor shower built into the ruins. Meals can be served at designated spots throughout the grounds, including under the Laurel tree or at the Old Store (now the spa) from 1908. The hotel recently opened three shops behind the hacienda, where local villagers make jewelry, clothes, and crafts on-site. If you have your eye set on several haciendas in the Yucatan, purchase the "hacienda hopping" package that allows guests to stay one night in each of the five Starwood Luxury Collection properties.
