Casa Las Tortugas Review

Boasting the best location on the island, this "bohemian-chic" hotel has 21 romantic rooms and one of the only spas on Holbox. Designed by Italian owner Francesca Golinelli, the property is colorfully decorated with artwork collected from her travels throughout South America. Fitting perfectly with the relaxed ambience of the resort are the Mexican fabrics, seashell curtains, and local-artisan furniture that adorn each room. The white, polished concrete floors inlaid with river stones help keep rooms cool, as do the balconies that receive ocean breezes. Bathrooms have hand-painted sinks, stone walled showers, and the hotel's signature line of honey-infused toiletries and mosquito repellent. The delicately groomed grounds are dotted with lounge chairs, sun umbrellas, hammocks, and suspended beach beds swinging from ropes. The small pool is equally inviting, but most guests relax on the beach (this is one of the only beachfront hotels that is not separated by the main road). The organic restaurant uses ingredients from its own garden, and there is a juice bar for those who want a quick shot of energy. The spa offers facials, wraps, scrubs, and massages, and the hotel frequently hosts retreats for yoga, dance, meditation, and cooking.
