Restaurante Isla Contoy

Restaurante Isla Contoy Review

Run by the amicable family that guides lagoon tours, this open-sided seafood shanty at the dock serves generous helpings of fish soup, fried fish fillets, shrimp, squid, and crab. If you come with a group, order the combo for four (it can easily feed six, especially if you order a huge ceviche or other appetizer). The delicious platter comes with four shrimp crêpes, fish stuffed with seafood, a seafood skewer, and one each of grilled, breaded, garlic-chile, and battered fish fillets (usually grouper or sea trout, whatever is freshest). There are also a few regional specialties and red-meat dishes. It's open for breakfast, too, which is included in the room rate if you stay in one of their simple rooms at Punta Ponto Hotel on the beach. There's live music on Sundays.
