Hacienda Uxmal Review

The first hotel built in Uxmal, this colonial-style building was looking positively haggard before a face-lift brought the property back to life with rooms decorated simply but elegantly, each fronted with wide, furnished verandas that face the pool. The courtyard has two pools surrounded by gardens. Each room has an ample bathroom with a tub, comfortable beds, and a coffeemaker. Some can accommodate a hammock, and some also have hot tubs. Ask about packages that include free or low-cost car rentals, or catching a ride in the comfortable minivan that makes trips to Mérida, Chichén, or Cancún. The original 17th century hacienda from which the hotel takes its name was recently unearthed, and guests can take horses or bikes to explore the ruins and learn about its history. Occasionally plays are staged in the massive courtyard that fronts the Hacienda. Guests can also take Mayan cooking classes, which are given in a traditional Mayan home.
