Getting Here and Around

The drive to Izamal from Mérida takes less than an hour. Take Highway 180 and follow the signs. Calesas are stationed at the town's large main square, fronting the lovely cathedral, day and night. The drivers charge about $5 an hour for sightseeing, and many will also take you on a shopping tour for whichever items you're interested in buying (for instance, hammocks or jewelry).
