Misión San Francisco Javier
Misión San Francisco Javier Review
In Cerocahui you'll find the Misión San Francisco Javier, a graceful little temple established in 1680 by the Jesuits. Although the order arrived in the area in 1680, indigenous Tarahumara uprisings and other difficulties delayed construction of the church until 1741. It is said that this was the favorite church of the founder, Padre Juan María de Salvatierra, because the Tarahumara were the most difficult people to convert. Nearby is a boarding school for Tarahumara children.
