This down-to-earth lodge is perfectly situated for bird-watching, walking in the woods, or horseback riding into the canyons. Ranch-style rooms with rough-hewn furniture and wood-burning stoves face a grassy courtyard. A fireplace in the bar and kerosene lamps in the restaurant give the common areas a glow. Room price includes three meals, plus transfer to and from the train. Doug Rhodes, a loquacious U.S. transplant, leads tours.
