Shopping in San Miguel de Allende and the Heartland

For centuries San Miguel's artisans have created crafts ranging from straw products to metalwork. Although some boutiques in town may be pricey, you can find good buys on silver, brass, tin, woven cotton goods, and folk art. Hours are erratic, but most stores open daily at around 10, shut their doors for the afternoon siesta (2 to 4 or 5), then reopen in the afternoon until 7 or 8. They're usually open for just a half day on Sunday. Most San Miguel shops accept MasterCard and Visa.
