El Claustro manages to strike a delicate balance: situated in a lively plaza, it captures the energy of the city while not feeling like a tourist trap. Walk into the semi-subterranean space and you'll see women making fresh tortillas—always a good sign—and the buzz of locals enjoying simple, authentic Mexican food. The specialty here is enchiladas, and the enchiladas rojas are particularly good. Also worth a try is the pollo a la veracruzana (chicken stewed with tomatoes and onions). There are three tree-shaded tables out on the plaza.
