San Miguel de Allende and the Heartland Restaurants

El Abue

El Abue Review

Don't let Guanajuato's twisted streets deter you from finding this little gem near the university. It's serves what is arguably the best traditional Mexican food of any restaurant in the town. The interior has a romantic, warmly lit, European vibe. Start with the margaritas, and move on to Caesar salad, one of the house specialties. The delicious chiles en nogada, topped with crunchy pomegranate seeds and filled with savory pork, are one of the best versions in Guanajuato. Even better are the enchiladas El Abue, stuffed with dried fruits and covered with Oaxacan red mole. The homemade breads and pastas are also a standout. Breakfast is on offer daily for $4.50.
