San Miguel de Allende and the Heartland Places

Pozos

The captivating, high-desert town of Pozos was a silver-mining center in the late 19th century. Now it's almost a ghost town; you can peek at abandoned buildings or the simple, echoing chapel. Rarely will you see another tourist. The Casa Montana hotel is the hub of information and activity; the owner can arrange a tour of the old mines. It has a collection of photos of Pozos and the surrounding area. Pozos is a 45-minute drive from San Miguel; look for a road marked "Dr. Mora."
