The Mexican method of numbering streets can be exasperatingly arbitrary. The fact that street numbers do not ascend in a logical fashion (i.e., the 100s on one block, the 200s on the next, and so on) drives even cab drivers crazy, not to mention the rest of us. Streets in districts outside El Centro generally have a theme to their names: names of planets, writers, musicians, countries, cities, or types of trees, for example. Many addresses have "s/n" for sin número (no number) after the street name. In small towns outside PV, references are often used in lieu of street names ("Across from the airport," for example).

Addresses are written with the street name first, followed by the street number (or "s/n"). A five-digit código postal (postal code) goes between the name of the city and the state.
