House of Wind and Water Review
Some elements are traditional, like the brick archways, tile floors, and fine woodwork. But most of the design elements at this cozy B&B are the creations or acquisitions of the artist-owners: large format paintings, whimsical bathrooms with hand-painted sinks and exposed copper tubing, and estate-sale furnishings. Guest-room balconies, the dining room, and plunge pool on the garden terrace overlook an amazing hillside of wild tropical plants and the Cuale River. Although not in downtown Vallarta, this property is a breath of fresh air for those who don't mind being a cab, bus, or car ride away from the action. Fully filtered fresh spring water from the mountain flows from all the faucets and showerheads, and the owners compost, use water-saving appliances and other ecologically minded practices. The hotel is the venue for courses that combine Vallarta experiences (like whale-watching, snorkeling, or trips to the mountains or botanical gardens) with artistic creations in cloth, ceramic tiles, or other media.
