Puerto Vallarta's dining scene owes its success in part to its annual gourmet festival, which has brought it internationalattention since 1994. During the eightday food fling each November, chefs from Africa, Europe, South America, and the United States bring new twists on timeless classics. Starting with an elegant chef's cocktail reception, the festival continues with a full table of events. Each of the more than two dozen participating restaurants invites a guest chef to create special menus with wine pairings. Local and guest chefs teach cooking classes and seminars. The culmination is a gala dinner with live music, fireworks, and naturally, an over-the-top gourmet meal.
