Hot pink! Electric yellow! Color aside, the Westin's buildings evoke ancient temples and are about as mammoth. There's not a bad sightline anywhere—whether you gaze out to the leafy courtyard or down an orange-tile, brightly painted corridor lined with Mexican art. The jarring echoes here are tempered by the rush of an enormous water feature. In the spacious, balconied rooms concrete-and-stone floors massage bare feet, and top-of-the-line mattresses with whisper-soft duvets make for heavenly siestas. Guest quarters above the sixth floor have ocean views; those below face the 600 palm trees surrounding the four beautiful pools. The Westin's Nikki Beach Club is still a classy restaurant/bar/lounge on the beach, although it's not as in vogue as it was for the first few years. Pros: Fabulous beds and pillows, impressive architecture and landscaping, attentive but not overzealous staff. Cons: small beach, fee for gym.

We enjoyed our stay at Westin, and found it to be accurately respresented on this and it's website. It does feel very airy almost anywhere, and the property with it's 4 huge meandering pools and palm trees is very inviting and lovely. The views from our deluxe oceanview room were fabulous. They are not on carribean time here, the service was very good, and I would highly recommend this hotel. You will find a much bigger longer expanse of beach at the Marriott a few blocks down, but we didn't come to PV just for the beach like we might go to caribbean.
