This humble beach town on Chamela Bay is an excellent place off the gringo trail for swimming, fishing, or exploring the offshore islands. Simple hotel rooms surround a swimming pool in this motel-like, quiet, two-story hotel a block from the beach at Punta Perula. Bungalows have tiny but well-equipped kitchens; the restaurant serves breakfast and dinner. The hotel owner spent many years in the United States and speaks excellent English. Pros: Beautiful Chamela Bay within walking distance, bungalow with kitchenette doesn't cost much more than standard room. Cons: No Internet service yet; on the highway, not the beach.
