Tropical plants give character to this privately owned property where tranquillity reigns. The hotel is on a hill above quiet La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, just north of Bucerías. Choose a garden-view room or ocean-facing suite in one of two villas that share common rooms—with TV, telephone, computer with Internet access, and DVD and CD players—as well as a swimming pool and gardens. Other pretty shared spaces include a dining area and kitchen in the guest villa, and second-story terraces off some of the suites. Villa Bella is the perfect place to enjoy the simple charms of earthy La Cruz, a very Mexican village with a brand-new marina and a growing number of foreign residents and snowbirds. Payment is accepted only via PayPal. Pros: Free airport pickup, lap pool, free cocktail (or two) Monday through Saturday evening. Cons: Up a steep road, and best for those with a car; about an hour from Puerto Vallarta; little or no nightlife in immediate area.
