This Old Vallarta original opened in 1955, and some folks have been coming here forever. That explains why most of the guests and staff seem like old friends. The Chez Elena restaurant, the unadorned rooftop bar, and the best rooms have nice views of the bay and of the city's red rooftops. Come to rub shoulders with Europeans and others who appreciate a bargain and a bit of history. Rooms are plain and without amenities, yet the traditional brick ceilings give a homey feel and the El Centro location a few blocks behind the hustle of downtown streets around the malecón provides a feel of Vallarta in less frenetic times.
