Pepe's Tacos
Pepe's Tacos Review
No longer the best in PV, Pepe's still can't be beat at 5 am, when most sensible taco-makers are asleep. It's an open-door dive across from the Pemex station at the north end of Old Vallarta. Expect plastic tablecloths, sports on several TVs, and 11 different types of quesadillas—from standard cheese in a flour tortilla to the "Japanese" version, with beef, sausage, pineapple, and mushrooms. You can order tacos by the set or individually (choose your meat grilled or barbecued over charcoal). One PV friend says she wakes up thinking about the tacos de chuleta con queso (pork and cheese tacos). The bar is serviceable with all the basics: rum, tequila, and beer.
