Juan Carlos Name, a disciple of modern-minimalist Mexican architect Luis Barragán, designed this looming high-rise near the Hotel Zone's south end and within walking distance of downtown. It's reliable, anonymous, and geared toward conventioneers and other groups. Rooms have a perky bright white-and-cherry red color scheme and very snug and comfortable beds with pillow-top mattresses and downy duvets. This is the closest of the major Zona Hotelera Norte hotels to downtown PV. Pros: Excellent Sunday brunch with mariachis, 24-hour Wi-Fi cheaper than those of many mega-hotels. Con: Slow elevators.

We've stayed here every year for the past four years, and always have a great time. The Sunday buffet is pricey, but a must-do decadent pleasure. The rooms are nice, comfortable, but sparcely furnished. (It's an aesthetic that some Americans don't appreciate--but I do.) If your don't want to sit through a timeshare presentation (like some of the other reviewers), just let them know that up front. It works for me.

The only bright side was the massage/spa.
