Each room is unique and elegant at this pricey boutique hotel in the hills five blocks above the malecón. Public spaces also exude wealth and privilege: 16th- through 19th-century antiques are placed throughout, water pours from fonts into Talavera-tile-lined basins, mammoth tables grace open dining areas. The Celestial Room has a wondrous view of Bahía de Banderas and the cathedral's tower from its open-air, thatch-roof living room. You can enjoy live music with complimentary cocktails in the early evening, and there are fabulous views of the bay from the second-floor restaurant, Hacienda San Angel Gourmet, which serves excellent international food beginning at 6 pm. Non-guests are welcome by previous reservation.

We booked a four night stay at the Hacienda San Angel based upon the terrific press and reviews of the boutique hotel. We were told that the Hacienda San Angel was the "Four Seasons" of southern Puerto Vallarta for discriminating travelers. The hotel was indeed unique and charming and the hotel staff were incredible. However, the accommodations are NOT equivalent to a Four Seasons-level experience and not worth the steep price. We were also gravely
offended by the manner in which the owner of the hotel treated us when we innocently asked for local advice and assistance that is routine at five and even four and three star hotels. We were actually personally insulted by the owner, something that should never happen anywhere, but particularly at this level of hotel and price point! We were disappointed at the treatment and our experience and, unfortunately, will not return and will strongly advise friends and family to research other options when staying in this area. If the owner was not involved and/or avoided direct interaction with the guests perhaps our candid review of this hotel would have not been quite as scathing. Until then, however, this hotel should be avoided.

Truly remarkable hotel. Beautiful spaces. Three separate pools. Unique and exquisite rooms. No complaints.
