Credit cards are widely accepted at pricier restaurants, especially MasterCard and Visa, and to a lesser extent American Express. More modest restaurants might accept cash only, and are leery of traveler's checks. Small eateries that do accept credit cards sometimes give a "discount" for cash (i.e., they charge a small fee for credit card use).
