PV restaurants cater to tourists with multicourse dinners, but traditionally, comida (late lunch) is the big meal of the day, usually consisting of soup and/or salad, bread or tortillas, a main dish, side dishes, and dessert. Traditional cena (dinner) is lighter; in fact, many people just have milk or hot chocolate and a sweet roll, or tamales.
Desayuno (breakfast) is served in cafés (coffee shops) and small restaurants. Choices might be hefty egg-and-chorizo or -ham dishes, enchiladas, or chilaquiles (fried tortilla strips covered in tomato sauce, shredded cheese, and meat or eggs). Tacos and quesadillas are delicious for breakfast; some of Vallarta's best taco stands set up shop by 9 am.
