Bahía de la Luna

At a Glance

    Pros

  • On a pretty beach with abundant marine life, secluded and quiet location

    Cons

  • Need to take expensive water-taxi ride to and from Puerto Angel, no other facilities on beach, basic accommodations (no hot water and limited electricity), kind of pricey in high season

Bahía de la Luna Review

This collection of thatch-roof bungalows is the only accommodation on beautiful La Boquilla beach, a water-taxi ride away from Puerto Angel. Rooms are very simple, though a tad more chic than the beach huts of Mazunte or Zipolite, with nightstands and bedposts made from found wood. Note that some units are on the hillside, and paths are steep. There's nothing to do here but lie on the beach or snorkel, but the hotel can arrange tours to natural areas and nearby beaches and towns.

    Hotel Amenities

My wife and I had our room broken into while we were there. The thieves stole a bunch of our things (camera, ipod, clothes) and managment just patted us on the back. It was too late in the day for us to leave go to another hotel, so we had to stay another night in the same room because "the other available cabins were not clean and the cleaning person had gone home."

    What an insult.

About the rest of the stay, the food is mediocre and since they have you as a captive audience they charge you way too much for it.

As for the beach, it is OK, but what the ads do not mention is that while the beach is secluded, dozens of boats pull in every day ad drop off tons of tourists. So the beach is just as crowded. Furthermore, because of the motors on the boats, the beach is often filled with the smell of motor oil.

The place is not worth it.
