High red cliffs serve as the backdrop for this beach west of town. It's ringed by upscale housing and hotel developments as well as some inviting bars, discos, and restaurants. Although the waves aren't fierce, swimming is risky here because of strong rip currents, especially along the east side of the bay. There aren't any lifeguards. For most visitors, Playa Bacocho is good for playing in the sand, long walks, and sunsets. Two beach clubs offer restaurant and bar service, swimming pools, showers, and shade; access is about $4. Security guards on three-wheelers patrol during the day, but it's not recommended to walk on this lonely stretch of sand at night.
