Fodor's Review

Inspired by the book Like Water For Chocolate, this second-story restaurant wears its heart on its sleeve. The pale yellow walls are covered with quotations about food, including, "To table and to bed you need call only once." The food is equally romantic, with a whole section of the menu dedicated to foods like quail in rose-petal sauce (a dish inspired by the book). The best choice, however, is the espejo de moles (a sampler of five different moles over

chicken). The tables on the balcony overlooking the Alameda are the best in the house.

Como Agua Pa' Chocolate Review

Beautifully romantic restaurant! Some local ex-pats recommended this place to us, so on our last night in Oaxaca we had dinner here, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The atmosphere was very romantic, lots of candles, and a nice view on the balloon vendors in the park below. The food is definitely a notch above most of the restaurants in town. We had Chiles en nogada and Quails in rose petals, followed by hot chocolates de leche, and

I can fully recommend these dishes. We'll definitely be back!

I Expected More

I expected a lot more. The room was OK, the food was a bit disappointing. The service was impeccable. My partner liked it more: she enjoyed the food. We had the quails in rose petal sauce and Champandongo. Good but underwhelming.

A quiet and comfortable place with great food and a lot of class.

I will never forget the delight that I saw in my wife's eyes when her dinner was served on a plate garnished with red rose petals. The owner's attention to detail drives my enthusiasm for this place. For a visual treat, I encourage my friends to visit the restuarant's website.

THE place in Oaxaca for a wonderful evening with excellent food

The place to go in Oaxaca for a great dinner: Overlooking the main square from the open balcony of the restaurant in first floor we had excellent food & drink. The atmosphere is really original with the walls painted with scenes from the famous book.

Water and Chocolate like you've never had

All in all, an amazing experience : swift and impeccable service, a romantic atmosphere, ecclectic and international patrons warmly welcomed by ever-smiling ecclectic and international owners, a great view on the Alameda and its crowd. And the food was... Well, take it from a french guy : the food was inventive, subtle and oh-my-god-so-good. Definitely worth the trip !
