La Biznaga

La Biznaga Review

The food at this courtyard café is traditional—except a few touches here and there that make it seem you've stumbled on some new cuisine. There's the standard beef smothered with mole, for example, but this version adds the pungent flavor of goat cheese. And the ice cream for dessert comes in tantalizing flavors, such as mezcal or guanabana. A retractable screen above the courtyard makes this a great retreat even on a rainy day. The cocktails here are good, too—it's a great place to sample mezcals.

Went here with our Oaxaca friend.
The best restaurant overall that we went to in Oaxaca.
Our food was excellent. My wife's dish disappointed her, but she didn't understand what she ordered, partly because it's difficult to read the menu (see below). I thought it tasted great.
The atmosphere was lively and convivial, but we could carry on a normal conversation without problem.
Service good, typically Mexican style. At a leisurely pace, and you're left alone unless you make a request. We like it.
My one complaint: the manner in which they post their menu on a 'must-have-been -on-steroids' oversized blackboard: it is confusing.
    Mostly tourists.
