El Biche Pobre

El Biche Pobre Review

This little restaurant east of Parque Paseo Juárez is packed with locals—sometimes there's not a tourist in sight—who appreciate the traditional fare like enchiladas suizas (with sour cream) and the rock-bottom prices. It's a 10-minute walk from the zócalo. You'll know you're there when you spot the huge green eyes on the side of the building.

This is the best place in town for a botana plate, which is sort of a collection of little appetizers. I was told the place used to be a bar a long time ago, but turned into a restaurant on the basis of these snacks. Who knows? Don't go there for anything else!
It is only for meat lovers, and it is cheap, huge, and delicious. I am a regular traveler to Oaxaca and this is the only restaurant I tell friends they must visit.

Assuming that you're the type who wouldn't dream of eating at McDonald's in Oaxaca...and you're looking for a great meal surrounded by locals, walk the extra few minutes to Biche Pobre. For my money, it's the best bet in town.
